Toastmasters provide two educational tracks:
a communication track, in which you develop your speaking skills, and
a leadership track, in which you develop leadership skills.
You can participate in both tracks at the same time or choose just one to start. The great
advantage is that you decide which track you want to complete, or you may work in both tracks
at the same time. The ultimate recognition is the Distinguished Toastmaster award, given to
those who have worked in both tracks and have received the Advanced Communicator Gold and
Advanced Leader Silver awards.
When you complete the first 10 speech projects (Competent
Communicator award), or your first 10 leadership projects (Competent Leadership award) you
will receive a certificate you can display at home or in the office.
If you wish, Toastmasters International will also send a letter to your employer about your
accomplishment. The diagram below shows the award progression in each track:
Members interested in building their public speaking and communication skills begin with Competent Communication.
The 10 speech projects in the Competent Communication manual help you develop your speaking skills one step at a time. When you finish all of the projects, you are eligible for the Competent Communicator award.
After receiving the Competent Communicator award, you can begin to develop more advanced speaking and communication skills through the Advanced Communication Series manuals. There are 15 in all, each containing five speech projects. Many of the manuals are career-oriented. You choose the manuals you want to complete and the skills you want to learn.
By the end of these paths, you will be an accomplished public speaker! To find out more about the communication path, downlod the membership pack below.
